It’s always a great day when our first shipment from Proven Winners arrives here in Powell River. The new 2021 lineup of annual flowers from Proven Winners is just gorgeous, as usual. These reliable and high-impact annuals are going to go fast, so don’t wait to stop by and see them!
Superbells Calibrachoa
Calibrachoa, with its small petunia-like flowers, is one of the best new summer annuals in the 2021 lineup. They’re drought-tolerant, bloom endlessly with no deadheading, and come in so many colours. We recommend the addition of a slow-release fertilizer when planting. They are happiest in part sun to full sun conditions.
- Tropical Sunrise: These vivacious calibrachoas will be the star of your containers this summer. Their vibrant pink and bright yellow striped blossoms have all the beauty of sunrise on a tropical vacation. Hmmm tropical vacation…maybe 2021 will be the relaunch of the annual vacation.
- Double Blue: Take the normal gorgeous calibrachoa, and double its impact with the stunningly beautiful double blossoms on these dark blue-ish purple blooms. You won’t be able to resist these blue-eyed beauties.
- Blackcurrant Punch: With deep magenta edges and nearly black throats, these calibrachoas have a little bit of punk attitude. They’ll make an eye-catching statement in any planter.

Supertunia Petunias
Supertunias are another excellent choice for your new 2021 annual containers. Supertunias bloom hard all summer and play the role of filler and spiller with their mounding habit. They have medium-sized flowers and do best in part sun to full sun. Add a slow-release fertilizer when planting.
- Royal Velvet: These deep royal purple flowers have all the panache and elegance of fancy flowers, with none of the maintenance of fancy plants. It’s a win-win––easy-going and beautiful.
- Mini Vista Pink Star: The new 2021 Proven Winners annual of the year, and it’s easy to see why. A low mounding and trailing plant that features loads of pink and white blossoms making it ideal as the ‘spiller’ feature in your containers. The veins of the petals are deep pink, fading to broad white stripes in between.
Bidens
Bidens are hardworking annuals that bloom from spring to frost, with no deadheading required. Low maintenance, heat-tolerant, and stunning––we couldn’t ask for more! They do best in full sun.
- Goldilocks Rocks:These beauties are juuuust right. They have some of the biggest flowers ever seen on Bidens, up to 3 inches across! The rich golden yellow of their flowers makes us think of Goldilocks hair in the sunshine.

Ipomoea Sweet Potato Vine
Named after their edible relative, sweet potato vines are grown for their ornamental beauty. They have excellent heat tolerance and grow vigorously. Sweet potato vines do well in the sun or part shade, though colours will be more vibrant in full sun.
- Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Lime: Just like the song, sweet Caroline is sure to be your new annual crush of 2021. The bright green, heart-shaped leaves of this pretty sweet potato vine go with anything.
- Sweet Caroline Jet Black: Showing a flair for drama and possibly a dark side to the sweet personality, the dramatic heart-shaped leaves are as close to true black as you can get. They are sure to add style to any container.
Heuchera
Heuchera is an extraordinary plant family. Their leaves add beautiful texture, and a rainbow of colours to any shady area in your yard. Colours range from deepest purple to rich red to copper to silver to various beautiful shades of green. Heuchera also boasts tall, pretty flower stalks that only enhance their effect in the garden.

Browallia

Sunpatiens
Sunpatiens are natural charmers with their decadent, colourful flowers. Cultivated to be patient and not fuss in full sun––and they bloom all season.
Compact Deep Rose: The flowers of this sunpatien are a deep classic rose pink. It will bloom profusely in containers or garden beds.

Heliotrope
Heliotrope is a stunning flowering plant that smells amazing. Whether you smell vanilla or cherry pie, they will add another level of sensory experience to your garden. All parts of the Heliotrope plant are toxic, so keep them out of reach of pets and kids. Heliotrope does best in part to full sun.
