Summertime means summer heat! Getting away from the winter cold is what many of us look forward to, but summer heat can be hard to manage as well, for us and our pets. Here are some of our fun ways to keep cool this summer.
Cooling Ideas
If you plan to be outdoors and the heat is unavoidable for a certain period of time, you can help your pet with cooling vests and bandanas. Vests and bandanas are designed to stay cool and keep your pet cool. Wet the vest or bandanna and place them on your pet. Check them often and re-soak as needed.
Take your pet for a swim! Fully submerging is a fun way to get cool for you and your pet. Check out pet friendly beaches, lakes, rivers, and creek areas.
If you are unable to get away to a water source, bring one to your pet. Pick up a kid’s pool and fill it with water for them to refresh at home.
Cat Cooling Tips
Have a cat at home? Cats typically are not going to head out to the beach or lake with you, and probably will not be lounging around inside the kiddie pool, so how do we keep our cats cool too? Pick up a cooling bed and place it in a room with the shades drawn, our pet will be able to stay cool in a quiet space they will love. Set up fans and open windows for cross breezes. Consider setting up a water fountain for drinking from. Cats prefer to drink from moving water and a water fountain will encourage them to drink more and stay hydrated.
Cool Treats
Give your pet a cool treat to help cool off from the inside out. At Mother Nature we have fun cool treats like frozen yogurt, and frozen “brothsicles” both frozen and delicious treats for your pet on hot summer days!
You can spend some time making your own home-made frozen treats as well.
